ISD109 Instrumental Music

Creating life long musicians

“ The things I learned  from my experience in music in school are discipline, perseverance, dependability, composure, courage, and pride in results. ...Not a bad preparation for the workforce!”

—Gregory Anrig-President, Educational Testing Service

Beginning Orchestra

Beginning Orchestra consists of all 1st year musicians, from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade from Wilkins, Lyle, Bridgeview, and Brodnicki Elementary Schools.  In the fall of your 4th grade year you are able to join orchestra. Students who join can choose the violin, viola, cello, or bass.

Beginning orchestra students work on fundamental skills on their respective instruments.

The ensemble meets two times a week after school in the Wilkins Cafeteria from 2:45-3:45.  Each student also has a small group lesson at their home school one time a week, for half an hour .

Beginning Orchestra students perform several concerts, and participate in an orchestra competition, and a community orchestra festival.

It is the goal for all students who have become involved with the music program here to continue playing their whole life.  Students can participate in orchestra at Wilkins Junior High and Argo High School.  Most colleges and universities have opportunities for their students to be involved in performance groups.  Students can be involved in full orchestras, small chamber groups,  and get involved in the alternative string scene and be in a band!  The possibilities are endless.  Many communities these days have community orchestras and chamber groups that you can join as an adult, no matter what your profession is!
