ISD109 Instrumental Music

Creating life long musicians

“It is  our job, as parents, educators, and friends, to see that our young people have the opportunity to attain the thorough education that will prepare them for the future.  Much of that education takes place in the classroom.  We must encourage our youngsters in such pursuits as music education.  In addition to learning the valuable lesson that it takes hard work to achieve success, no matter what the arena, music education can provide students with a strong sense of determination, improved communication skills, and a host of other qualities essential for successful living.”

Intermediate Orchestra

Intermediate Orchestra consists of all 2nd and 3rd  year musicians, from 5th, and 6th grade from Wilkins, Lyle, Bridgeview, and Brodnicki Elementary Schools.  Students who have successfully completed beginning orchestra, will move up to intermediate orchestra.

Intermediate orchestra students continue to work on fundamental skills on their respective instruments.  The group works on more advanced music, and learns more material and musical concepts.

The ensemble meets two times a week  on Monday and Wednesday, after school in the Wilkins Cafeteria from 2:45-3:45.  Each student also has a small group lesson at their home school one time a week, for half an hour .

Intermediate Orchestra students perform several concerts, participate in an orchestra competition, perform in a community orchestra festival, have the opportunity to play at community events, and participate in a solo and ensemble competition.

It is the goal for all students who have become involved with the music program here to continue playing their whole life.  Students can do orchestra at Wilkins Junior High and Argo High School.  Most colleges and universities have opportunities for their students to be involved in a performance group.  Students can be involved in full orchestras, small chamber groups, get involved in the alternative string scene and be in a band!  The possibilities are endless.  Many communities these days have community orchestras and chamber groups that you can join as an adult, no matter what your profession is!
