WILKINS JUNIOR HIGH CONCERT ORCHESTRA

Any student in Indian Springs District #109 who has interest in learning the violin, viola, cello, or the double bass will have the opportunity to join the Orchestra program. Students can join the Orchestra program in the fall of fourth grade by participating in the recruitment activities at the various District elementary schools. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will be in either Beginning or Intermediate Orchestra under the direction of Ms. Sara DesJardins. Seventh and eighth grade students will participate in the Wilkins Junior High Concert Orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Christina Hudson.

Wilkins Junior High Concert Orchestra

The Wilkins Junior High Concert Orchestra is comprised of students in the seventh and eighth grade who have typically been performing on their instruments throughout the elementary program, and have shown commitment to pursuing orchestral studies into junior high. Students in this ensemble have the opportunity to perform at various concerts, festivals, competitions, and at the Solo & Ensemble festival.

 

The Wilkins Junior High Concert Orchestra has string rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday morning before school from 7:00-7:30 a.m. On Friday mornings, the Concert Orchestra combines with the Wilkins Junior High Band to form the Symphonic Winds & Strings, which rehearses from 7:00-7:30 a.m. In addition, all students in the Orchestra have daily sectionals for one period during the school day, during which students meet in small groups for personalized instruction and tremendous opportunities for improvement.
